we have new information regarding a deadly dog attack in grand forks this weekend. we've learned a man had to stab to death a pitbull-type dog to save his own dog's life. thank you for joining us. police are asking for your


help in locating the owner of the attacking dog, in order to see if the victim dog's owner needs to undergo rabies shots. the name of the man injured in the attack has not been released. valley news team's neil carlson


has the latest on all this. kim weinstein says, she and her dog rosy are at the dog park here at lincoln park most mornings. she says now and then things can get ugly between dogs.


reporter: "have you seen any severe fights?" kim weinstein, grand forks: "i have not. my husband brought the dog down one morning and she did get involved. another dog attacked her and


he separated her, yelled at the owner and the owner left. i've certainly heard stuff from other owners, but not me personally." on saturday afternoon, a dog attack turned deadly here in


lincoln park. one man's dog bit down on the neck of another dog and wouldn't let go. the owner of the dog being attacked, delivered a deadly blow to the attacking dog, in order to save his dog.


police say it was a pitbull type dog that attacked and wound up being stabbed to death. lt. bill macki, gf police: "the owner of the dog that was being attacked tried


to separate the 2 dogs. he ended up getting bit pretty significantly as well. then at that point the victim took out a knife and stabbed the dog and ended the attack at that point."


police say the unidentified man left the scene with his dead attack dog on an atv. now, they want to identify him and that dog, in order to see if the man who was bitten needs to undergo


rabies shots. lt. bill macki: "there's a short window of time that the victim and the victim's dog have, before they have to start the rabies shots. and if we can get the owner of the attacking dog to


come in and provide those records, that might save the victim additional medical costs." in grand forks, neil carlson, valley news live. police say the owner of the dog


that attacked was riding his atv in the park illegally, and without having his dog on a leash. if you have any information, you're asked to contact police.
