- it's not gonna feel good. - that is in there good. (yells) (grunts) ouch. (fast tribal music) we're on private property right now, a rancher who wanted to remain off camera. he gave us permission to be on his property
and he said, "i see the gila monster every single day. "this is the time, you gotta show up, "hang out at the bottom of the hill, it's gonna come out." and sure enough, at 8:15 in the morning, there he comes up out of his burrow. i see him. he's out. and he's underneath theprickly pear cactus. this is the culprit right here.
that's prickly pear cactus. in approaching the gila monster, i was very excited, so i didn't think about the fact that i was crawling up into a prickly pearcactus, and i have these little, fine needles all in my shoulder, they're all in my hands, and i was kneeling in these, and this is the biological landmines we have to deal with out here.
now i'm dehydrated and full of prickly pear needles. - well, one thing you might not have known, at least i didn't know about a gila monster before the scene was they have slime green poop. it literally looks like teenagemutant ninja turtle ooze. - one of my favorites, but i wanna know what your favorite lizards are. (groans) (laughs)
(gags) he just pooped all over my hand. - yeah, it was great, whencoyote gets pooped on, that's... - aw. it stinks, hold on, let me put him down. aw jeez, i got gilamonster slimed big time. i think he's had about enough of this scene. - i had to rinse it off, of course, but still, it was worth it.
- [voiceover] so you were on cleanup. - i was on cleanup. - [coyote] that isbelly sweat right there. mel. - no. - belly dancer. it is so hot, i am drenched in sweat. - i also had to blot coyote quite a bit 'cause he gets sweaty.
- blot me. - [voiceover] all right, let's just keep rollin' the scene. - life on breaking trail, bounce boards and blotting, when it gets real hot during these scenes. sit right on that cactus, all right, here we go, ready? - just walkin' around, all the prickly things you gotta watch out for. there are many times you're just tryin' to get a good shot and adjusting your stance
and then like, "oh, i sat on a cactus." - i think we're gonna keep adventuring through the desert so i think we're gonna rest for a bit. hopefully these monsoonsbehind us don't hit and we can head back out there and see what else we can find. i know tonight we're hopin' to do some herping and maybe we'll come across a cool snake or two. - yeah, that'll be sweet.
