have you ever wondered what a crown is fora tooth? well, a lot of people know it as a cap, but the clinical term is called a crown, and my name's michelle, and i'm a dental assistant with solutionz, and hopefully, i can explainto you the difference between the cap and the crown. basically, a crown for a toothis it looks just like your natural tooth. once when you go to your dentist, and he recommendsthat you have a crown placed on the tooth what they would do is they would prep yourtooth, which basically they would drill down the tooth, they would remove the enamel, takean impression of that. they would send that out to a dental lab technician which wouldmake an actual crown. now, what a crown is it's it's high noble metal fused to porcelain, and porcelain is the tooth colored material
which will cause that natural tooth look effect.and then, when you come back you would wear a temporary for about two weeks, and thenyou come back to your dental office and they actually cement the crown on top of your tooth.they would use, you know, like a eugenol cement that has clove oil in it to kind of help withany sensitivity that you might have in there, and actually it's a it's a calming effectfor the tooth. they would cement it onto your tooth and it would look just like your naturalteeth, as far as with the porcelain, the shade of it, the color, and basically that's prettymuch all that is involved with a crown. it covers the full body of your tooth. it's ahigh noble metal; usually three different metals fused into one, and it is adhered, and porcelain is adhered onto that to create
a natural tooth color crown. once again, myname is michelle, and i'm a dental assistant with solutionz, and i just explained to youwhat a crown is for your tooth.
