it's a very common situation to have someonecome in that has a very severe toothache. if there is adequate support around the tooth,meaning the bone and gums are healthy around the tooth and there is a decent amount ofhealthy tooth structure inside your mouth, we are generally going to recommend a rootcanal. if the tooth has a good prognosis, it's going to last you a long time and thatwould be the most desirable thing. if there is any type of undermining of the supportof the tooth or the bones and gums are unhealthy then we would recommend the tooth be extracted.again, a lot of this comes down to valuing natural teeth. there are excellent replacementsif you choose to have a tooth removed. you can choose removables, partials, dentures,bridges or implants. there's a variety of
different ways you can replace a natural tooth.the best thing is what you were born with -- the natural tooth is always the best thingeven though there are excellent replacements.
