bridge flipper teeth

i have a tooth that is broken and my dentist recommended an extraction and a bridge but i don't want to grind down two perfectly good teeth on each side to make a bridge. can i have an implant instead? an implant could work very well in this situation. grinding down teeth weakens them and makes them more susceptible to possible root canals, tooth decay and gum problems. sometimes a bridge is a decent alternative,

especially if the adjacent teeth already have large fillings, where they probably could need a crown anyway. but if the adjacent teeth are in really good condition, an implant would probably be the better option.
